OSNE LTA Profile – Dr. Bijoy Mohan Misra – 2024

Dr. Bijoy Mohan Misra one of the early Odias in the New England Area who arrived in the 1974.

As an early Odia settler in New England, he started some of the Odia cultural activities from his apartment by gathering handful Odias in the area.  He also invited several Odia artists to New England, providing them with a platform to showcase their talents and spread Odia culture.  

In 1983 formally Odisha Society of New England (OSNE) was born under the stewardship of Dr. Bijoy Mohan Misra and many other founding members of OSNE.

During the formative years of OSNE he’s instrumental in organizing & inviting many renowned Odia artists like; Sanjukta Panigrahi, Guru Kelucharana Moahapatra & Guru Aruna Mohanty.

He actively provides mentorship, encouragement & guidance in promoting Odia literature, writings & poetry in various Odia platforms like; OSA & OSANET.

He took the leadership on behalf of OSA on managing Super Cyclone relief in 1999 and represented OSNE in many OSA Conventions including in Toronto in 1985 & in Washington DC in 1996.

Dr. Misra has been contributing immensely to the Odia community in New England along with Indian Diaspora in the New England Area more than the past 50 years by his association with IAGB (Indian Association Of Greater Boston), SAPNE(South Asian Poets Of New England) etc.

Dr. Misra served as President of OSNE 1985-1987, OSA Secretary/Treasurer between 1999-2001 and IAGB president between 1987-89. He initiated IAGB India Day celebration at Esplanade, Boston in 1987 and received IAGB Distinguished Service Award in 2008.

Bijoy Bhaina as he is popularly known as, promotes Indian culture & heritage through India Discovery Center (IDC) by conducting research, exhibitions, seminars, publications, speaking engagements etc.

He is a writer, poet, and scholar with profound knowledge of Vedic literature. His dedication to preserving and sharing Odia traditions and ODIAtwa, including the rich Vedic philosophy, has earned him deep respect within and outside the Odia community.

He encourages young students to engage in the study of Odia literature, writing and actively participate in various scientific discussions through a variety of forums.
